SARAJEVO · BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA
We find promising solutions, test them in real conditions, and learn what is worth taking further.

01 — THE PROBLEM
Winter air pollution is part of daily life in Sarajevo.
During the winter months, Sarajevo’s valley geography, household heating, traffic, and stagnant air combine to produce persistent smog. The consequences are felt in the streets, in homes, and by the people who spend their days outdoors.
≈ 3,300
premature deaths annually in Bosnia and Herzegovina are linked to air pollution, according to the World Bank.
02 — PROMISING SOLUTIONS

CITYTREE IMPLEMENTATION · GLASGOW, SCOTLAND
CityTree
A compact, planted installation designed to support local air-quality improvement in dense urban settings. It is one of several internationally developed approaches OAS is studying for what can be meaningfully adapted, maintained, and tested in Sarajevo.
AIRBUBBLE PLAYGROUND · WARSAW, POLAND
AirBubble Playground
A public-space concept that brings cleaner-air technology into a setting for children and families. It asks how environmental protection can become visible, usable, and part of everyday urban life.

SMOG FREE TOWER · ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS
Smog Free Tower
An iconic experiment in making air pollution tangible in public space. Its value as a reference is not a ready-made answer, but a useful question: what does a visible intervention need to prove in a city’s real conditions?

03 — LOCAL INNOVATION
Panda Solar Club — Goražde, BiH
“Among 300,000 competitors from 71 countries: Ahmed Gušo named best young innovator”
Ahmed Gušo, a student at Goražde’s “Hasib Hadžović” Technical High School, developed Panda Solar Club with mentor Merima Fočo. The project brings together a practical response to polluted air with accessible renewable-energy technology.
A practical idea focused on cleaner air in everyday settings.
An environmental response that connects air quality with local action.
A project grounded in solar energy, batteries, and accessible technology.
04 — WHAT WE WANT TO LEARN
We’re not here to showcase promising solutions.
We’re here to find out what works: what reduces exposure, engages people and can be maintained affordably in Sarajevo.
The strongest can go further. The rest tell us what not to scale.
